Gabrielle Paetkau, RCC
Gabrielle is a trauma-focused Registered Clinical Counsellor who works primarily with adults navigating the lasting impacts of trauma. Her areas of focus include abuse, major life events, complex relational wounds, cultural oppression, and grief and loss. She is deeply committed to supporting individuals as they process difficult experiences and rebuild a sense of safety, identity, and inner strength.
Gabrielle holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and brings experience from both community-based and recovery-oriented settings, where she has supported clients through individual and group counselling. Prior to becoming a counsellor, she spent nearly four years working as a women’s support and outreach worker in a domestic abuse transition home. This work shaped her commitment to trauma-focused care and continues to inform her approach.
Her therapeutic style is trauma-informed, relational, and client-led. Gabrielle integrates narrative therapy, parts work, and somatic awareness, working collaboratively with clients to explore patterns, understand triggers, and gently process experiences at a pace that feels safe and supported. A central focus of her work is helping clients move from self-blame and the question, “What is wrong with me?” toward a more compassionate understanding of “What happened to me?” — reducing shame and recognizing that many coping patterns developed as meaningful and protective responses. She believes that while painful experiences can influence us, they do not determine our worth or define our identity.
Drawing from her experience facilitating structured treatment programs, Gabrielle incorporates psychoeducation to help clients understand how their brains and bodies respond to trauma, as well as other aspects of mental health and well-being. This helps clients make sense of their reactions and develop tools to feel more regulated and supported. She believes that understanding these responses can be empowering and affirms that clients’ reactions are not a reflection of their worth.
In addition to trauma work, Gabrielle has supported older youth and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, self-harm, body image concerns, and self-confidence struggles. While trauma recovery remains central to her practice, she values meeting clients where they are and focusing on what feels most important in the moment.
Gabrielle offers a steady, compassionate space where healing can unfold with curiosity and care. Sessions are collaborative and responsive to the needs of the client, guided by a shared goal of healing, growth, and creating meaningful change in their life.
Gabrielle offers sessions in English & Spanish.
